PC ProSchools
I really wanted a career as a network administrator so I went to hear the PC Proschools pitch. Here’s the pitch…
· Small class sizes
· Certification program completed in 6 months
· Hands on training – that will be counted as on the job experience for employers
· Career specialist help find you a job in your field
· Help with getting interviews
· Help with resumes
· Wages average 35k – 55k
My experience wasn’t on par with the pitch promised, but I did get the job I wanted as a network administrator. The classes were fairly small and the teachers did know their stuff. My problem is with the hands on training…it wasn’t everything I was hoping for. It was more like a bring your child to work day, here see this…no..don’t touch that.
I got all the help I needed with my resume and was prepared for the questions I would get in job interviews. The only problem with job interviews is the ones provided by PC Proschools were provided to everyone in the class. Needless to say I was on my own to find a job interview that I wasn’t competing with my fellow classmates for. Pounding the pavement and doing the resume thing I went on a lot of interviews…and I mean a lot.
After all my hard work I finally found a company to hire me in the position I wanted as a network administrator. Is it harder to get a job in the IT profession without 4 years of college behind you? Abso-freaking-lutely, but I wouldn’t have gotten the job at all without the training I received at PC ProSchools.
If you can go the college route do it…college seems to make getting hired easier. If you’re like me and can’t afford to spend 4 years of your life in school and you don’t mind working the pavement for employment then definitely attend a program like PC Pro Schools. Once I was hired, I felt like I had to keep proving myself to my co-workers for quite awhile, but now I have and I’m just another one of the IT guys.
